Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of commitment is involved?
That’s up to you! We pride ourselves in being the premier place to continue (or start!) your Cross Country and Track & Field career at The Ohio State University. Everything is optional and we have a range of very dedicated runners and hobby-joggers!
We understand that academics come first and our captains make an effort to help each club athlete train to the level that they aspire to. If you can’t make it to practice everyday, that’s okay!
We do not hold tryouts and there are no cuts. If you find yourself in a position where you aren’t training you can still be in the club as a social member! Make friends and be a familiar face with us!
What if I can’t keep up?
We have such a large variety of runners that we run the gamut when it comes to paces! We have groups of all sizes that go different paces and we make sure that nobody gets left behind for any reason.
If you’re particularly nervous or have an extenuating circumstance, talk to one of our officers! They’d love to help you out & make you feel welcome.
Track AND Field?
Yes! We do not only have distance runners but a corps of Sprinters, Jumpers, and Throwers too!
Typically these folks practice in a different location from the distance runners due to different training activities but we ware all together at the track on workout days!
If you’d like more information about this side of run club please contact one of our sprint captains or check out the Sprint Plan on the Competitive page!
What does the club do besides run?
Lots! We have social events throughout the school year that every official member is welcome to!
Some fan favorites are: the Maize at Little Darby, Tai’s Fall Formal, the Date Parties, and Fun Friday!
Most events are in and around campus but when we leave the campus area we carpool together!
We firmly believe that Run Club is a place where everybody has the opportunity to enjoy their college experience to the fullest.
Are there dues?
Yes, dues pay for a lot of what we do as a club. Here’s a break down of what the memberships help pay for.
Social, as a social member you help pay for and are given
A sick t-shirt
Access to any social events, including girls/guys nights, Pasta Dinners, Little Darby Corn Maize, Laser tag, and all other social gatherings
Competitive, as a competitive member you help pay for and are given
Everything included in the social membership
Participation in meets (xc or track depending on the season)
Subsidized jersey and hotel costs (members do not pay the whole price because the club pays for some too)
If you have questions about our dues structure and want to know more, please reach out to an officer!
*All members are welcome to any practices, workouts, or lifting sessions.
Do I have to pay dues if I only want to come to practice?
No, you can attend practice for free! However, people who do not pay dues do not have access to the GroupMe or any other events.
Can I still be in Running Club if I can’t come to practice?
Yes, practice is a good way to make friends, but you are not required to come to be in the club! Everything is optional, so you can do what works for you.
If I only want to compete in track, can I join in the fall?
Yes! We have a membership option just for people like you and you are welcome you to join in the fall. If you’re a runner, you can join the team for runs, or if you’re a sprinter, you can join the sprinters for their workouts. You can contact sprint captains Alyssa Lecky or Silas Kayuha or check in the newsletter for more information about when and where to meet the sprinters!
Do I need a jersey to compete?
No. While our jerseys make us look really cool and fast, they are not necessary to compete in our races.
Wait, I don’t have a car. How do I get to meets?
Not to worry! We carpool to every meet and will find you a ride with other club members. The upperclassmen that live off campus & have cars help us out!
Club members can pick who they ride with so that we all have a great time road-tripping together!
